Free Summer Fitness Series

Free Fitness – No Registration Fees or Sign-Ups Required • June 13 -September 18

The Worcester Parks Summer Fitness Series is a 14-week program presented by the City of Worcester Department of Health & Human Services and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA in partnership with YWCA Central Massachusetts. The program runs June 13 through September 18, Mondays through Sundays, at 12 City Parks. The goal of this program is to create a healthier Worcester by providing residents with opportunities to engage in healthy eating, active living, and community building.

*No Classes on Monday Juneteenth 20th, Monday, July of 4th, and Monday Labor Day -September 5, 2022.

*Other activities such as African Drumming, BBQ, Mental Health & Nutrition Workshops, and many more. 

Participate in three or more sessions and receive a YWCA Fitness Membership giving you access to the fitness center and pool for the duration of the program. WRTA bus services are free through December 31, 2022. To receive up-to-date info including weather and schedule changes, sign up to receive text updates. Text “FIT” to 508-219-8383. Park locations, dates, and times are subject to change. No classes on the following Monday holidays: June 20 (Juneteenth), July 4 (Independence Day), and September 5 (Labor Day).

Class Descriptions

Boot Camp: This strength and conditioning class features different exercises and great music in each class. Not only will you increase your endurance, strength, and condition, you will never get bored! Come with all your friends and make this a fun fitness meet-up event.

Self Defense: Lessons would go over the self-defense mindset, striking techniques, and escaping from attacker’s grabs. All classes will include various cardio and strength training.

Zumba Craze: A workout that mixes body sculpting movements with dance steps derived from cumbia, meringue, salsa, reggaeton, hip hop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, calypso, and salsaton. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. Fun for all ages.

Basketball Skills & Drills: This fitness and conditioning basketball class allows players to develop skills and techniques while providing a fun and exciting experience. It will include, but will not be limited to, warm-up, passing, shooting and dribble skills, working on offensive & defending skills, and more. Increase intensity at your own pace to build stamina and speed. Fun for all ages

Flag Football Skills and Drills: The flag football drills are designed to boost footwork, fitness, and conditioning and to develop skills and techniques while providing a fun and exciting experience. It will include, but will not be limited to, running, quarterback drills, wide receiver drills, football conditioning, and flag pull drills. How to catch and throw a football will allow participants to become more confident in their game. Fun for all ages.

Caribbean/Hip Hop Dance: a collaboration of pilates, afro beats, hip hop, and Caribbean styles similar to Zumba.

Latin Salsa: Latin Dance Studio that offers salsa, bachata, body movement, yoga, lady styling, spin techniques, and body movement classes. Tumbao Latin Dance prides itself on building a friendly climate and culture where all levels of dancers can come together to learn and enjoy the diverse Latin music that we love as we provide our students with an opportunity to experience the Latino culture.
