GPS is a strength-based, violence-prevention and education program that uses evidence-based curriculum to teach middle school girls the resiliency skills and traits needed to prevent violence and avoid engaging in negative risk behaviors. The GPS program is a collaboration between the YWCA Central Massachusetts and Girls Inc. of Worcester. Each organization has a staff member that co-facilitates the program throughout the school year.
GPS meets once a week virtually. Over the year, we cover topics, including communication skills, assertiveness, economic literacy, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, bullying/sexual harassment, media/peer pressure, and dating violence. We engage youth in these topics through games, activities, discussions, videos and other media.
The girls will participate in a reflection exercise at the end of the year, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned during the year.
Please sign the attached permission slip, giving your consent for your child to participate in our program this school year. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact:
